Dubai Economy to bring latest e-services and apps to GITEX Technology Week 2017

Dubai Economy will participate in GITEX Technology Week 2017 being held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from the 8th to 12th of October 2017, showcasing its innovative e-services and applications for visitors. The participation is in line with the efforts of Dubai Economy to connect with leading technology companies and government entities as well as to update businessmen and investors with the latest developments and services provided.

Mohammad Khalifa AlQaizi, Director of IT Department, Dubai Economy, said: "As government entities regularly attending GITEX Technology Week, this year Dubai Economy and its agencies will be bringing the latest of our digital and smart solutions introduced for businessmen and investors in Dubai, making it easier to do business in the most competitive and sustainable environment.”

A notable display from Dubai Economy at GITEX Technology Week 2017 will be the ‘Smart Lounge,’ which is a self-service experience for customers supported by world-class information and communications technology (ICT) tools and capabilities. Visitors can also learn about the ‘Business in Dubai’ smart application for business registration and licensing, as well as the ‘Instant Licence’ initiative that enables investors to get a business license in one-step and within five minutes.

A special team from the Business Registration & Licensing (BRL) sector in Dubai Economy will also provide an overview of the ‘e-Trader’ programme that enables Emarati and GCC national residents of the UAE to conduct business activities on social networking sites. The ‘Dubai Business Map,’ an interactive guide linked to the Dubai economy database, which takes investors through area-wise economic activities and economic performance indicators across Dubai will also feature among the displays.

Dubai SME, the agency of Dubai Economy mandated to develop the SME sector, will bring its Dubai SME Smart System, which enables SMEs to register as members through the official portal www.sme.ae. Members can submit their business ideas online, request for services, submit documents and also track the status of their application.

The system allows Dubai SME employees to communicate effectively with members, process their requests and extend services such as counselling and guidance, license fee exemption, office allotment at the Hamdan Innovation Incubator (Hi2), funding, training and enabling participation in exhibitions and events. The system has already been used to register participants in the Global Village (2017-2018) and the Government Procurement Programme (GPP).

Marwan Al Nasser, Senior Manager of GPP at Dubai SME, said: "Dubai SME in collaboration with the Executive Council of Dubai will highlight the e-procurement portal, the official online channel for companies to interact with buyers in different government agencies, at GITEX Technology Week 2017. The system allows Dubai SME members to register at the Dubai eGovernment. Members will then be directed to the smart supply page and asked identify their business sector so that they can receive alerts on tenders concerned.” Al Nasser added that the first-of-its-kind e-procurement system will help enhance SME competitiveness and productivity as well as their contribution to the GDP of Dubai.

Dubai Exports, the export promotion agency of Dubai Economy, will showcase the smart application ‘UAE Export Directory’, which is compiled to give an overview of the manufacturing and export capabilities in the country. The directory lists products manufactured in Dubai and elsewhere in the UAE according to according to the International Classification Code for Industrial Products.

Saad, the first cognitive computing service introduced by Dubai Economy in partnership with the Smart Dubai Government Establishment to facilitate business licensing and registration will also be on display at GITEX. The first artificial intelligence system of its kind, Saad is based on IBM’s Watson technology and capable of understanding human language as well as quickly analysing and interpreting data. The service, available on the social media channels and website of Dubai Economy, enables investors, businessmen and business owners to ask questions orally and receive faster, real time response based on the latest information available on the Dubai Economy data bank.

The Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection sector will display its ‘IP Gateway’ and ‘Maydani’ initiatives. IP Gateway allows trademark owners anywhere in the world to submit complaints regarding intellectual property violations to Dubai Economy electronically along with supporting documents. Maydani is aimed to facilitate field inspections through identifying locations with the help of GPS technology and rectifying irregularities among commercial establishments electronically.
