TRA Delegation Visits Moscow To Learn About Best Practices In Smart Cities And Digital Transformation

A delegation from the General Authority for Regulating the Telecommunications Sector (TRA) headed by H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansouri, TRA Director General, visited Moscow, the capital of the Russian Federation, to learn about Russia’s best practices in the fields of information technology, digital economy, artificial intelligence and telecommunications, and discuss ways to enhance cooperation and joint action between the two countries in these fields.

Over the course of two days, the delegation held meetings with representatives of the Russian government and the private sector, where the delegation met with H.E. Edward Lysenko, Minister of the Government of Moscow, Head of Information Technology Department in Moscow, and H.E. Dmitry Peskov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on Digital and Technological Development, and H.E. Konstantin Noskov, Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, respectively. The visit also included a meeting with representatives of NCC, Yandex, Security Code, Kaspersky Lab, RT-line, Rostelecom Group and INFOWATCH.

Commenting on this visit, H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansouri, TRA Director General, said: “The visit of the TRA delegation to the Russian Federation comes in the context of getting acquainted with global experiences in relevant fields, activating cooperation with countries of the world and sharing experiences and knowledge in a way that benefits all parties. In a few years, the UAE has been able to achieve prestigious centers in the field of ICT by achieving qualitative leaps in these sectors. And through our visit to a great country like Russia, we seek to identify key strategies in technical fields and at the same time showcase the achievements of the UAE. The exchange of knowledge and experience reduces our efforts and helps us reach the desired results more efficiently, and achieve UAE Vision 2021 and the goals of the National Agenda.”

He added: “What the world is witnessing today in tremendous technological breakthroughs is the result of the accumulation of information and experience produced by all mankind. The happiness of the peoples of the world is increased as a result of cooperation, interaction and concerted efforts among these nations, with the aim of achieving prosperity and peace for all humanity. We in the UAE, under the guidance of our wise leadership, are keen to be an active contributor to this goal by sharing knowledge and experience with other countries worldwide, helping to achieve sustainable development for all nations of the world.”

The meetings discussed avenues of cooperation in ICTs, exchange of innovative technologies between the two countries, and reviewed the experience of e-Government and other innovative experiences in Moscow and the role of the city government in making Moscow a smart and digital city. The two sides discussed the importance of exchanging expertise in the field of e-Government and digital services to the public, and building the digital economy. Discussions also addressed regulating the protection of citizens’ personal information and data from external threats, the capacity-building program with the TRA, cybersecurity of critical communications infrastructure, IoT, and other issues of concern to both countries.

It is worth mentioning that the international visits by TRA delegations are part of TRA’s continuous efforts to enhance UAE’s leading position in the international arena, strengthen international partnerships with TRA and UAE strategic partners, keep abreast of international and regional studies and research and latest developments in the global telecommunications scene as well as to propose appropriate strategic recommendations to TRA management.
